Suggested Route for a Full Visit

The estate's trail network is signed, but the signs don't tell you which order makes logical sense. This route minimises backtracking and saves the most dramatic features for when you have the most energy:

  1. Start at the Visitor Services Centre — collect the estate map, use the facilities, grab a coffee to go from the Lakeside Café if you want a warm start.
  2. Head straight to the Jealous Wall (~10 min walk). This is the centrepiece — do it first while you're fresh and the light is good.
  3. Continue to the Gothic Arch on the main trail loop.
  4. Take the woodland path to the Octagonal Gazebo — the route through the woodland section is the rougher part of the estate, so tackle it while energy is high.
  5. Return along the Lough Ennell lakeshore — the most scenic return route, particularly in afternoon light.
  6. Visit the Walled Garden and Fairy Garden on the way back to the VSC — the walled garden is best at a slower pace, good for a second wind.
  7. Finish at the Lakeside Café — earned.
Collect the estate map: The official Belvedere House estate map available at reception is more detailed than anything published online. Collect it on arrival — it shows current trail conditions, accessible paths and feature locations more accurately than any static resource.
